Broken Promises {+2/12/09}

Continuation of previous chapter

I smiled weakly and turned around again not being able to look at him. He placed the carrier down and wrapped his arms around my caressing my belly. I tried to remove his hands but he held on tight and had his head buried in my hair. After a while I felt something wet on my shoulders and I passed my fingers lightly on it. I realized Trevor was crying so I turned around and held his face in my hands.
‘I’m so sorry Karma...baby I am so sorry’
‘What’s wrong T?’ my heart hurt so much to see him like this
‘I left Keerah a few weeks after she told you to leave me alone. I don’t love her...I don’t think I ever did...I love you K...and I want to be with you and my baby’
I touched my belly wondering how he knew.
‘Latifah gave me the US picture that day but she told me to open it in December so I did. I kept it in my wallet all this time and this morning I opened it and got on a plane the moment I saw it’
‘But...I thought Keerah had moved with you...and your son?’
‘I took him and left her...I can’t be with her anymore...and even worse when I knew you were pregnant...some people had told me they saw you with a belly, but I wasn’t sure..part of me felt it though.’
I smiled up at him. I felt my baby moving like crazy. It knew it’s father ‘Well, now that you’re here let’s choose some furniture’
He seemed happy when I said that and immediately began picking out various items.
‘I don’t have that much money with me T...my other credit card is on my other purse’
‘I got all this baby’
We walked around the store hand in hand causing a lot of commotion as little kids ran up to him to ask for his autograph. He was sweet about it though and I took pictures for his little fans. We walked out the store and headed over to a cafe. Trevor carried his son as I noticed an old lady staring at me.
‘I know her...where have I seen her before?’
‘Go talk to her’

I walked over to the old lady and she smiled a toothless smile at me.
‘Arr, Karma my dear...you are back’
‘Urm...how do you know my name?’
‘Think my dear...years ago you found me in Miami’
‘Oh my God the fortune teller?’
She laughed and her whole body shook.
‘Yes my dear, it is me...I have been waiting for you. Dreams have been coming to me about you. Has he come back to you? Every time you cried, I felt it...and I decided I had to find you and make sure you are fine. The last dream I had, your lost love came back’
‘Trevor? He is here now...but I don’t know for how long’ I sat down and found myself telling her everything. She listened patiently and nodded as I talked.
‘I believe that now he is back for good...I believe that now both of you have learnt your lesson...Last night I had a dream and there was a man in the shadows singing a song. I wrote some lines down so that when I see you I can give it to you and maybe you’ll know what it means’
We continued to talk for over an hour. Afterwards she got up and walked away. Before doing so she took my hand and squeezed it.
‘Good luck Karma Hill’
When I opened my hands I saw a piece of paper...I opened it slowly and my eyes opened wide as I read its contents. She got all that down? How did she know? I was in total shock as I read the lines of the poem Trevor wrote for me back in high school.
