Chapter 9 – Ignorance is Bliss

Trevor and I were official. The past 3 weeks have passed by so quickly and I’ve never been this happy since I first met Trey. Trevor does everything to make so happy, if I’m upset he’ll do anything to make me laugh. But still I’m weary and I’ve still got a strong hold on my heart, but Trevor is slowly loosening my grip. He has taken me to loads of places and I’ve met all his friends and we all get along really well. The girls on the cheerleading squad are amazing and together with Keisha and Sharifa we spend a lot of time together shopping and gossiping. I have really fit in. Everywhere I walk girls say hi and point at me saying I’m the luckiest girl in the world because I have Trevor. Some even tell me to make sure I keep him away from his old ways.

School is also the best place to be right now; especially since at home I can’t even stand to look at my mum. I really wanna tell my daddy, but it will break him. He relies on her so much, he’ll die without mum. I try to stay out as late as possible with my friends and Trevor, and I think maybe mum and dad have noticed that I avoid them a lot.

The only problem I had at school was LeToya and her clique. They did everything to make my life hell and we shared classes so it was hard not to hear her talk about the shit her Trevor used to do. Every time I walk out the class, Trevor has to reassure me that it really is just is too. When he holds me I feel so good and everything she said just pops right out. Looking into his eyes I can see he is sincere...but still...for how long?

Today was our first month anniversary and when I woke up I had received a sweet text saying ‘Happy Anniversary Baby’. It brought me to tears that he even remembered. I got dressed in a short green denim skirt and a yellow Jamaica t-shirt my dad bought me. While getting dressed I heard what sounded like mum and dad arguing. I hurried up because I didn’t wanna hear this. I yelled that I was l leaving and ran out the door bumping into Trevor.

‘Whoa, where you off too in such a hurry’ he grabbed me and pulled me close.
I kissed him back as fiercely as he was kissing me for what seemed like hours. It felt so good. When we pulled apart he gave me a red rose. ‘For you my love...now what’s up?’
I looked back at my house and then back at him, ‘mum and dad are fighting and it’s the first time I hear them...I’m scared’
I began to cry and he held me in his arms until I could stop. ‘Let’s skip school. I can’t face everyone like this’

‘Positive, take me somewhere’
‘K, let’s go to my place and then we’ll go somewhere else’

He laughed as we made our way to his house.

When we arrived his mum was watching tv. I sat down next to her while he went upstairs to get some stuff. She was watching a movie about a woman who was cheating on her husband. It brought me to tears and she noticed.
‘What’s wrong pretty girl?’ she cupped my chin in her hands and searched my face for an answer.
I blurted out everything and she took me in her arms. She allowed me to cry while trying to comfort me.

Sometimes adults we grow up and realize we made the wrong choice, now some of us live with it while some of us try to fight. But you must talk to your parents. They must know how affected you are. Talk to your mum first and let her know you that you are aware of her affair, then talk to your dad’
I kept on crying as I nodded. She was right, but the pain was too much. She planted kisses on my head and I tried to calm down.

My mum left when I walked downstairs and she warned me to take good care of Karma

We walked around my place and she smiled as I described each room. When we reached my room she sat
on the bed and looked around.

Chapter 12 – A test of your love

‘Where you been Trevor?’
‘No where...why?’ Karma was in hallway outside her class and she looked pissed. I bent down to kiss her and she slapped me across the face.
‘What the hell? She put her phone in my face and I saw me and LeToya with her kissing me right before I pushed her off. Karma didn’t even wait for me to explain. She ran off.
‘That’s right new girl...run off...he’s mine’ LeToya was standing behind me laughing. The bell hand rung and the halls were beginning to fill up with students. Finding Karma was damn hard. She was nowhere to be found. ‘KARMA?’
I was yelling for her and I felt someone grab my school bag. It was Rae, one of my boy’s girls.
‘What the fuck Trevor?’ she held up her phone for me to see. I realized everyone in school had seen the picture. Looking around I saw everyone giving me cold stares.
‘It’s ain’t like that Rae’
‘How is it? How can you do that to her?
I kicked the lockers around me and banged my head against one. Letting myself slide to the floor I held my head in my hands. Rae sat down next to me and Janae had arrived as well. After a while I heard music coming from the changing room. I walked closer to investigate and I saw Karma dancing. She was in some short shorts and a tight white tank top. It looked like she was practicing a routine, but I could see the hurt on her face as she did the steps over and over again. I looked around making sure no one saw me and I sneaked in quietly. She gasped and then her look turned to one of anger when she realized it was me.
