Chapter 21 |Listen to Me|
Waking from my slumber, arms engulfed around my face could be felt as I laid there in wonderment. What if something is wrong? What if I lose my baby? How will Marcus look at me now? How would I view him in the next couple of days? So many questions ran through my mind with doubt and fears. Never have I truly felt so much fear about my future. Not even during my father’s death. Looking against the white walls remind me of starting over on a clean slate. Unfinished business needs to be taken care of before I do move on. That means moving away again for me to get my life back together. As much as I disliked New York, it opened a close bond between Marcus, Zay and myself. I need that once again. I long for it.
My body shift slowly, so to not disturb Marcus. Switching onto my left side, I faced Marcus, to see his eyes still close. I smile at the thought of his caring spirit realizing we have come too far along together. My eyes scoped his facial features, realizing he has a cut along the side of his face. My finger reach up towards it to touch it softly as he sort of winced in pain before opening his eyes. He stared at me, not saying anything as his eyes were red from a lack of sleep.
“How did you get that?” I asked still looking at it.
He cleared his throat… “Handling business.” His deep voice said from the sleepiness. His hand rubbed over his face and placed his index and thumb over his eyes, giving it pressure so he could wake up.
“How are you feeling?” he asked as he removed his hand from his face and resting it on the left side of my face as his thumb gently played against my temple.
“Better since you’re here.” I smiled.
I knew I look rough. I am just ready to go home and sleep. Why did he have to bring me here? The baby will be fine. I know it will.
“Ready to go home aren’t you?” Marcus asked as though he was reading my mind.
“Well damn, aren’t you part of my mind?” I joked.
“Don’t worry, we’re leaving out of here soon.” He said.
He began shifting his weight from near me, getting up only for me to feel a draft.
“Where are you going?” I asked.
“I had to meet up with Corey for something.” He said, slipping his phone out of his pants pocket.
My eyes lingered his way, knowing something is going down, and Ron is at the forefront
“Don’t do anything stupid. Okay?” I asked for reassurance.
“Nothing out of the ordinary.” He said as he stepped over to the bed, bending over to kiss my forehead.
“Get some rest.” He said. “I’ll be back as soon as possible.” He added as he stood up to walk out of the door.
“Don’t kill him.” I said watching him stop dead in his tracks as though I took the thoughts from his mind. He didn’t look back. He just stood there for a minute, then walked out of the door.
