Chapter 4: Let’s Try Please

Trevor kissed me! And I kissed him right back. I couldn’t believe it. When we pulled away we still had our arms around each other. Could I do this again? Could I allow myself to fall in love again? I remembered what Tia had told me about sorting myself out before I even think of falling in love again.

Chapter 6: Stranger from the Past

The moment the plane landed I took out my phone and called Shontelle.

The question caught me off guard. I got up and looked out the window. I did love Dru. So damn much. And now his back. I was over him. I had forgotten about him. I was in the mall shopping for a present for my sister. She was turning 16 and I wanted to get her something special. I picked up a pair Vogue shades and tried them on. Deedee was staring at Shontelle and the guy in the shop. ‘It’s that sick mothereffa Dru’

‘You heard me. That’s Dru. And Tia right. Let Tel handle this. She need to let him know what’s up.’

‘Off course boy. She loves you. She was all googoo eyed watching the game this week-end. She could have kissed the TV.’

We hid behind a pillar as we saw Dru holding my girlfriend’s hand and walking to the lift.

‘I hope you two are right.’
‘Don’t worry. Tel is crazy about you. True she still got some feelings for Dru but she told us last time when he called that –’ she stopped talking when she saw the look on my face.
‘Uh oh...right...urm...about that...Tia do you mind.’
Tia rolled her eyes and told me what happened when I was in Houston.
‘But don’t worry. We aren’t. She told us. Dru needs to know that she has moved on and that she in love with another man now.’

I believed them but still; as I looked at my girl ride the elevator with that psycho I couldn’t help but feel worried that I‘m about loose her.

That night I waited for Shontelle to tell me about her day. Eventually she mentioned Dru. I breathed a sigh of relief because the fact she was telling me about it meant she wasn’t hiding anything from me. She said that they talked and she told him it was over between them she was moving on. I walked over to her and kissed her.

‘That’s great baby’

I lifted her up and carried her upstairs where we made love just like we did the first time except the first time she didn’t say Dru.

Lying to Trevor was the hardest thing I had to do but everything was ok until I said Dru’s name while we made love.

‘What did you call me?’

My mind went blank. ‘Trevor, I...’

‘You what? Man this shit ain’t happening now. You know what? I’m out. I don’t know why you said that’ He was getting dressed and I saw tears in his eyes. I closed my eyes remembering this afternoon.
Dru apologized to me. I fell in love with him again. I tried to stop myself, but he kissed me and it all came back. Problem was...I also loved Trevor. Now I really felt like I was on a battlefield. Who do I love more?

‘Trevor please...I’m sorry. Let me explain.’
‘Fuck it ok Tel. I love you. Think about it. I haven’t hurt you at all. Call me when you ready. I’m actually gonna wait for you’

I tried to hold him but he pulled away from me and walked out the door. As he slammed the door I fell down and cried. I cried for a long time. I stopped when I realized it had been over an hour since Trevor left. I called Deedee and Tia and told them everything. I even told them that Dru raped me.
They were at my place is less than 5 minutes.

‘Ok Tel, let’s think about this. The SOB raped you and now you letting him back in your life? What about Trevor?’
‘I’m not letting him back in my life. I love Trevor.’
‘Well, you need to let him know’
‘Yeah, you’re right. But I need to deal with Dru first then I can talk to Trevor. Could you call him for me? He needs to know. I just want to deal with this, get rid of Dru so that I can be in the clear with Trevor. I really do love him. Dru raped me. And today I felt all those old feelings creep back when we kissed. I don’t want to be with him though. It won’t work in the long run. Trevor is the right one for me.’
‘Yeah we can tell you feel that way. Your eyes are red and you holding on to his picture’
‘Plus you’re wearing his basketball jersey’

I smiled at my best friends. I was in the middle of a battlefield with 2 opposing forces on either side. I knew which side I wanted though. Trevor. How do I get rid of Dru now?

I couldn’t believe it. I thought everything was going great. How could she? After I got home I sat down on the couch and cried like a baby. What will I do? I love her. I opened my wallet and took out her picture. I took that picture of her on the beach 2 days before I left for the game against Houston. Looking at the picture I made a decision. I decided to fight for what I love. She was mine and I wasn’t gonna let that SOB take her away from me. This is war...I’m at war for the love of my life. If I let her go, then I’ll never love again. I just have to make her see that Dru gon hurt her again.

I was thinking about this Dru jerk when it hit me...I might know this son of a bitch...

I woke up to the sound of my phone ringing. I picked up and saw a strange number on the Caller ID.

‘Hello?’
‘Hey, Trevor. It’s Deedee.’
‘Oh...what you calling for’
‘Tel loves you...that’s why. She made a mistake. She thought by talking to Dru that she could forget everything, but he still has a hold on her that she is trying hard to get out of. Because she wants to be with you. She loves you.’
‘Yeah well...when she is ready to be with me, I’ll be here.’
‘Ain’t you gon try to talk to her at least?’
‘Maybe Deedee. But right now I got a lot to think about. You can tell her I love her though. Bye’
‘Ok...bye than’

I hung up the phone and sighed. How can I make her understand? I’m not giving up on her, I want to make her happy. I thought about what Deedee said. Dru got a hold on her. I need to break that hold. I picked up the phone and called the radio station. I made a request for Sean Kingston’s new song ‘I’m at War’ and asked the DJ to send it to a special lady. I didn’t want people knowing who Shontelle is right now.

Next I dialled one of boy’s number.

‘Hey Trevor...sup man? Been a while’
‘Aye...all gud man...hey listen I need your help. You and Marcus’
‘We down, you know it. You the only nigger who made it big and still hangs with us so you know we got you man. What’s up?’
‘Great...how bout you and Marcus come over. Remember a dude named Dru? He was in the club where you and the guys had a fight. I think he was in jail for a while too.’
‘Seriously man? What he do now?’
‘Man...Remember I told you bout my girl Shontelle? Well, he tryna be dirty’
‘Aww hell no...man we coming’

I hung up the phone satisfied. Dru don’ know what he’s getting caught up in.

I woke up this morning to the smell of bacon and eggs. Tia must be making breakfast. I switched on the radio without really thinking. I found that strange as I never really listen to the radio. But the moment I heard what the DJ was saying I knew why my gut had told me to. I shouted for Deedee and Tia to come up and listen.

‘OMG Tel! He is letting you know what’s up! He’s gonna fight for you’
‘He don’t have too because I wanna be his anyway’
‘Not with Dru in the picture. You have to push him out Tel.’
‘How?’
‘Ok, I’ve been thinking. I got a plan but it’s gonna be hard to follow though we can improvise along the way’
‘Spill it’
‘Let’s talk over breakfast’

As we had breakfast we discussed Tia’s plan. We made adjustments where needed and removed the parts that were not good.

‘It might just work Tia’
‘If it does...Dru will never know what hit him’
‘True...but are ready? I mean are you willing to lead him on without falling again Tel?’
‘If it means I’ll be with Trevor...I’ll do anything’
‘Good...now Deedee and I just gotta meet Trevor and tell him our plan. He needs to know so that he won’t think you got together with Dru’
‘I can’t wait!!’
‘When do I start?’
‘Right after you’ve had your shower and are dressed to kill’
‘Yeah girl, cuz that’s what we gonna do’
