Chapter 13 |Cat and Mouse|
I sat in the waiting room after they admitted Jinn in the hospital with Zay sleeping on my lap. Its after nine, so I sat there waiting for the boys. Suddenly I spotted dreads flying in the air rushing up to the counter, followed behind him was Marcus looking through the glass at me. I stood up, placing Zay’s head upon my shoulder as I walk out the waiting room and into the main area where Marcus stood looking at me. I bet you he didn’t have shit to say. I gave him Zay and walked over to the counter where Corey is at.
“I‘m her husband. Where is she?” he asked impatiently. The receptionist typed away on her computer pulling her information up. “She‘s on the second floor in room 2090. Take this elevator and keep to your right she is at the end.” the lady instructed as Corey stormed off to the elevator. We were right behind him. The elevator was silent as we made it to the second floor. A loud scream could be heard at the other end of the halls.
“Must be Jinn, I know her screams everywhere.” he said as we made it down to the room to see the nurse checking on her. The nurse look up to see her. “I‘m her husband.” Corey announced to her as Jinn spoke out. “Where the hell you been. Get your ass over here.” she screamed aloud as he did as she told him. “We are going to be in the waiting room.” Marcus said as I took the lead.
Approaching the elevator I pushed the down arrow with Marcus behind me. Upon entering, the silence ceased.
“Silent treatment now?” he asked. “Gunshots Marcus?” I asked sarcastically.
I didn’t look his way knowing his jaw line is cringing in a rhythm at the thought of me knowing something. Reaching the first floor, I immediately head to the waiting room making myself comfortable in an empty chair being the only individual in there at the time until Marcus approached with Zay in his arms. I sat there with my arms folded hearing Marcus scuff in an undertone sitting completely opposite from me. As much as I wanted to say something, but I refused. My phone vibrated in my pocket but I didn’t bother to look at it. Being that the room held silence, Marcus heard it across the way.
“Answer it.” he said.
I turned and look his way with a look as though he was joking.
“Don‘t tell me what to do.” I said aloud.
He stood up placing Zay in my lap as he began to head out of the door. I got up on his trail.
“Where in the hell do you think your going?” I asked as we exit the automatic doors. “What the fuck you worried about that for. Carry your ass home with Zay. I‘ll be home in a few.” he demanded. “I don‘t get it. You had the nerve to get mad at me about a phone call and yet your lying to me on a promise we made together.” I said. “I didn‘t break any promises…” he said stopping in mid sentence as something sparked his interest suddenly. “Listen to me. Alright. Lets get in the car and head home alright. I‘ll explain the deal later.” he said taking me by my arm. ”Where did you park?” he asked still looking back as I looked forward. “Just follow me.” I said as I head towards the car.
My insides fumed with anger at the thought of us playing cat and mouse all over again. I want serious answers now. Upon reaching the car, Marcus took Zay out of my arms and into the backseat. “Just get in and drive. Don‘t drive home, drive somewhere until I tell you too, aight.” he said as I hopped in the front seat mumbling curse words in a low tone. Marcus sensed it…
“Look baby. This ain‘t nothing big, alright. Just follow my instructions and I‘ll explain the shit to you when its safe.” he said.
I took a deep breath, cranking up the car and off onto the main drag. A set of bright lights suddenly pulled out causing me to bite down on my bottom lip because of nerves.
“I can‘t believe we are reliving this shit again Marcus.” I said.
The sound of his voice on the phone became relevant. Obviously it is Corey. He warned Corey what was going down in code then hung up as he sat up to see where we were and who could possibly be following behind.
“Feel like heading to a hotel?” he asked. “For what?” I asked. “Different vibe.” he simply said as I rode around until I came across the Hampton’s.
Pulling into the front Marcus got out to see if there is any availability. I checked my watch to see it is nearing eleven. My body is growing weary to the thought of running game again. About ten minutes later Marcus trotted out with a hotel key.
“Park in the closest spot.” he said as he watch me pull around the way. I got out and took Zay out as well. Marcus took Zay from my arms and into the hotel building where hopefully I will get an explanation from.

Chapter 14 |Truth|
The bed feels like a nice cloud holding me weightless in the bed. My eyes scoped out Marcus as he slipped off his shirt, tossing it in a chair beside the bed Zay is sleeping in while peeping out of the window.
“Speak.” I said with a hint of attitude. “Not with that tone.” he respond. “Well how am I suppose to speak Marcus? I want answers and I want them now.” I said as I watch him turn my way looking me dead into his eyes. “Alright. I‘m going to tell you the whole scoop because I know you. You heard right, a gunshot in the phone, but Corey and I was observing. There is something you should know, but I tried my best to conceal it to protect this family. The war isn‘t over Clare.” he said. “What do you mean?” I asked already knowing the answer. “Exactly how the fuck it sounds like.” he said looking back off into the city lights. “You just don‘t know how many death threats we had. We cannot return to Mexico. Hell we shouldn‘t be down here, but I know how much you miss it here.” he said. “Why are you just telling me this? You know damn well…” I began to say, but he cut me short. “I know you didn‘t want to continue in this business. Shit I know I don‘t but there is no choice when you acquire so many enemies.” he said cutting his eyes back towards me. “Not saying you have many.” he added. “So, basically they are after you?” I asked.
I could see him smirk a little before responding,
“Enemies can‘t live without me. When I open my mouth I make an enemy, no friends, just enemies.” he said. “I‘m not your enemy.” I said watching him open the balcony door to exit out.
I got up and stood at the balcony door while watching the muscles in his back flex to the movement of him bending over on the rail.
“Well, this time we aren‘t dealing with my enemies.” he said dryly. “Is it someone I know?” I asked.
He shook his head no as I notice he drew in a long sigh. I walked up behind him as I wrapped my arms around his waist resting my head on his back.
“Who is it?” I asked taking in his subtle scent. “Not sure. Mystery.” he said looking to the side. “So what are we going to do?” I asked. “What the hell you think?” he asked sarcastically. “I don‘t want to go back to my past. I want everything to be like it was the past ten months where we are carefree.” I said. “It never was normal. I made it normal for you when in actuality we were still on the run. I took us as far up north as I could possibly get us without leaving the country. There are only two alternatives I can think of…” he said stopping in mid-sentence. “What is that?” I asked.
He shift his body causing my weight to move from his weight so he can face me. His eyes look deeply into mines, searching for something.
“What is it?” I asked placing my hands back upon his muscular arms to where he settled his hands on my waist to pull me closer. My head rest upon his chest as I could feel the rhythm of his heart. His chin rest lightly on my head.
“Either we kill the motherfucker and move to another country, or fake our deaths and start over.” he said.
I glance up towards him to see if he was serious. His eyes never shifted and his facial expression showed no sarcasm. I pulled away from his grasp and sat down in a chair provided for me. I thought for a good second before he said anything.
“I‘m all out of ideas. I‘m tired of this shit. I wish I never got involved with this shit, but its our lives now. Face it, we have enemies.” he said and suddenly my cell phone went off. I didn’t bother to answer it, but he gave me a look. “Answer it.” he demanded with his arms folded.
I pulled out my cell and answer it only to hear what I didn’t want to hear.
“What do you want?” I asked as I glance up at Marcus who gave me a look of disapproval. Stepping into my direction, he snatched the phone away from me.
“Wassup.” Marcus said through the phone. If only I can hear the whole conversation. “Yea man…You did catch her at a bad time…” he added as I noticed an evil semi smirk on the crevices of his mouth. “Oh wait before you hang up. I want to tell you if you call this number again or even try to see Clare, I will personally pay your fucking ass a visit.” he said calmly, dropping my phone to the ground as I watch it crash into pieces. “What the…Marcus why you did that?” I asked. “We‘ll get you a new phone in the morning with a new number. Right now we have business to handle.” he simply said.
And business it is…That night we talked for hours trying to think of everyone on our bad side, and each one will get a visit. We are back. The new Bonnie and Clyde ready to devour anyone in our way. As badly as I didn’t want to live like this the adrenaline rush flowing in my veins for action made me feel alive again. From the look of Marcus, he is ready to blast whoever fucker won’t leave us alone.
