Chapter 2 |Family Fun|
I laid in the bed the next morning with thoughts floating in my mind. We have been in New York for the past 10 months now being in the month of July. I dreadfully miss home wishing I could be back in the summer heat and feeling the comfort of the sand in between my toes. Well, now we are here, in the city of Albany, New York. No real trees, no real gardens, simply buildings and concrete. We escaped what we called a hazard zone. If we stayed there we would have been hunted down for the case of Javier’s death, to my sister death, and probably go as far as my fathers death. When we were approached by the police, they let us know that they were missing. Both Marcus and myself made good alibis as to our whereabouts with Jinn’s and Corey’s help. We made it seem as though we were visiting them at the time and didn’t know anything about the incident.
But I think that was the easy part. The hard part was confronting Reggie with the letter she left for me to give to him. Within the letter she left instructing me on Marcus whereabouts. Another paper was wrapped up in the mix with a sadden letter I couldn’t help but read. I couldn’t stand there and see a man who dearly love my sister find out she passed on along with their unborn child. We held a private funeral for her in Mexico so to not attract any attention elsewhere. She laid next to our father, may god rest their souls.
Thoughts escaped my mind as I could hear little Zay running in the room with Marcus behind him. He was screaming trying to climb onto the bed while Marcus played with him.
“Look whose up.” Marcus said scooping him up in his arms to kiss his jaw.
“I wanna…go by mommy.” Zay screamed out in laughter stretching his arm out towards me.
Both Marcus and myself have gotten used to the fact of him calling us his parents since we are devoting our lives to raise him. Marcus dropped him on the bed as Zay crawled towards me and I wrapped my arms around him giving him a big kiss.
“Zay…My big baby.” I said kissing his plump jaws as he continued laughing.
“So that’s the big baby now. Push me to the side because its his birthday.” Marcus teased plopping down next to us in the king size bed. Our room is very comfortable with its relax serene feel.
“I didn‘t say that.” I said leaning over to kiss him on his cheek.
Zay gave him a funny look after I kissed him. We burst out in laughter, well at least I did.
“You see that shit. Boy you want me to drop you back off to your room.” Marcus said as Zay wrapped his arms around my neck tightly.
“Okay, stop teasing him because he is hurting me now.” I said loosening Zay’s grip. “What time is it?” I asked as everything finally calmed down.
“Its about 10.” he said and I quickly got up.
“Damn Marcus. You let me sleep til ten. I told you I had a lot to do today.” I said getting up out of the bed.
“Sit your little ass down girl. Things don‘t pop off til three.” he said.
“I still have to cook.” I shot back, grabbing my robe to wrap around my body.
Zay crawled over to Marcus staring at me.
“Women are a trip Zay. Stay single as long as you can.” Marcus joked with Zay giving him a high five.
“Put your head down on the pillows Zay.” I told him as he did so. Once he did that I flipped Marcus the bird and quickly began running as he took off after me. I ran down the stairs and in the living room, but his speed caught up with me as I fell onto the sofa face first and Marcus on top of me.
“You want me to bite your finger off girl.” he said.
“You know I need that finger Marcus when your not around.” I joked with him as he began tickling me.
“So its like that.” he said, but I can hear Zay yelling… he stood on the stair case looking at us.
“Get off of momma…” he said, which diverted Marcus attention.
“Boy, you want a piece of this too.” Marcus said getting up to grab little Zay with his one hand bringing him back onto the sofa as I sat up on the sofa trying to catch my breath.
This is our family time. We left the sadness behind to focus on laughter to build us up.
“Look babe, since half of lil Zay’s daycare is coming, I’m about to start cooking ok.” I said
“Aight, but they little asses ain‘t going to be here no all damn day.” he said seriously as I smirked at him knowing his patience with other kids are thin than of his own.
“Ok…believe me they won‘t.” I said and off he trotted back upstairs with Zay leaving me to prepare for the food. What a day ahead of me.
