Kayla
"Are we going to see Orlando?" Kai asked as she looked up at me while I was curling my hair.
"Yeah, what time is it?" I asked. Her small body ran out of the bathroom and into the kitchen to look at the clock on the microwave.
"Six forty-seven!" she yelled.
I turned the hot curlers off. Walking into my room, I slipped my hills on.
"You look good!" Kai smiled.
"Thank you boo, so do you" I smiled. Knocks came to the door and Kai's face lit up.
"He's here, he's here, he's here! Orlando's here!" Kai raced to the door.
"Dont you open that door Kai!" I yelled out to her as I exited our bedroom.
"Aww Kay can I? We know it's Orlando!" she whinned. I shook my head.
"No kid, not this time" I smiled, "Go get your shoes on"
"Uggh, okay" Kai said sadly as she trotted to our bedroom. I couldn't help but smile as I opened the door.
"Why are you here?" I asked disgusted, it was my boss.
"I came to drop off your last check" he said
"Last? What do you mean last?"
"Your fired"
"For missing one day?"
"No, so we can be together, Kayla. I see how you struggle with ya' lil sister. I can put all that away, and give you and her everything y'all need. Don't you think she deserves that much?" a look of confusion washed over my face as he stepped in. Kai came running out of the bedroom.
"Hey Orlando! I tried to open the door for you but Kayla wouldn't let...me. Who are you?" Kai said with a snotty look on her face. My boss picked her up.
"I'm David, your sister's friend" he smiled as he stood up with her. Kai pushed off of him.
"Put her down" I said between my teeth in a low voice. His smile fell off of his face as he let Kai go. "Go to your room, Kai" I said, I waited for the sound of the door to shut. "I am not some naive little girl, I take care of Kai fine on my own. I don't need your hand outs. The only relationship between us is a business one, that it is."
"I don't know how your gonna take care of that brat without job. Don't show up tomorrow" he said ripping her check in two pieces, then tossing it at her. He walked over and stood with his back to her in the doorway, taking a cigarette out of his pocket, he spoke as he lit it, "Don't think I'm gonna make it easy for you to get another job, I know people. You better get your shit together. I know what's best for you" he spoke, then proceeded on.
