Chapter 9 |Apart|

It’s after midnight when I received a phone call from Jinn who let me know the boys were still out. She told me Corey took him to the beach to vent out his problems after having a smoke fest at one of is boys house. I slipped on a pair of shorts and a tank top that had a hoodie attached to it. Soon a knock at the door and upon opening was Jinn with her pillow and covers. She hand me her keys.

“Be careful ok. Corey said call him so he can tell you exactly where they at. Okay.” she said.
“Ok. Thanks.” I said walking out the door to see her Lexus parked out front. I swiftly maneuvered to the car slipping in and cranking it up. The smooth purr of the vehicle is relaxing. Jazz music played low key in the background helping me to get a better focus on what I plan to tell Marcus. I mean, there is nothing for me to lie about anymore. He has the right to be mad, but I plan to make things right with him and prove to him that I am the one for him because he damn sure is the one for me.

The streets are empty as I paved my way through the eyes of the half moon. Street lights glowed in an array of colors giving a glimpse of how a starry night may look in a city. Upon arrival at the beach I called Corey up hearing him answer...

“Hello.” he said.
“I‘m here.” I said.
“Good…its toward the right side.” he said, I guess trying to disguise the fact that I’m on the phone.
“Okay.” I said and could hear the phone click off.

Making my way across the parking lot, I spotted the Maxima standing alone under a street light. My heart began racing sending chills throughout my body. I sat there for a minute, waiting for the right timing. I shut my phone off because I refuse to go through any more issues of unwanted callers. Opening the door to get out, I notice two dark shadows walking towards the light post. Its them. I got out, closing the door behind. The hoodie masked my face as I quickly walked closer to the now silent beings. The silence soon disappeared.
“What the hell she doing here? I knew not to trust your ass either.” Marcus said walking over towards the car.
“Yea, but I been a friend to your ass for the longest. Get over here and talk to your girl man.” Corey said as I stood next to him. I gave him the keys and talked in an undertone.
“You can go. If I need you I‘ll call you.” I said as he stared me in my eyes. “That nigga is in love with you so make shit right.” he said.

Marcus sat in the car ready to crank up. Corey began trucking to the Lexus while I quickly shuffled to the car. Knocking on the window, Marcus refused to look up.

“Please Marcus hear me out for a minute…” I said continuing to stare at him. “Marcus…Listen ok. I messed up. I know that. I know how you feel about liars. You just don‘t know how stupid I feel for doing that…” I said, but stopped as I could hear the window being rolled down. “You want to walk?” I asked seeing his blood shot red eyes staring at me. “Come on…Lets walk so that I can tell you everything. Okay?” I asked for reassurance.

He let one long drawn out sigh, then cut the engine off. I glance off to see Corey finally pulling out, I guess wanting to be sure that he would give me a hearing ear. Marcus rolled up the window and got out of the car, closing it behind him. He stood there looking off into the distance.

“Look at me Marcus.” I said.
“The last time I looked at you, you lied to me.” he said continuing to look away from me.

My head hung low feeling upset about this whole incident.

“Ok then. My intentions were not to lie to you Marcus. I don‘t even know why I lied about that foolishness, but you have to believe me when I say I didn‘t mean to.” I said, unsure of what to really say.
“I don’t know what to believe.” he said as I watch his jawbone working.
“Believe that I will never lie again.” I said.
“And what that‘s suppose to do?” he asked.
“Marcus, what do you want me to say?” I said wanting an answer my damn self.

Finally he look me in my eyes. Eyes filled with pain and sorrow.

“Why did you lie to me in the first place?” he asked.
“To protect us…you, me, Zay…Us.” I blurted out.
“Protect us from what? Hiding shit ain‘t no protection.” he said.
“I didn‘t want this drama. What we dealing with now, I don‘t want it. I didn‘t expect him to call me. The only reason why I answered my phone was because I never look at the caller I.D. You know damn well these past 10 or so months we been together I would never jeopardize our relationship over bullshit like this, but it comes to find out I have a stalker ex on my case…” I said.
“All you had to do was tell me. I would handle it.” he said.
“That‘s it Marcus. I don‘t want you to handle it. I don‘t want us to go back on hiatus rode away from here. I love it. I miss it. I don‘t want to move back. I want us to be a family here, near our friends. But more than that, I want us to be a happy couple away from drama.” I said. “And the strip club wasn‘t no where near my plans. I didn‘t want to go there knowing I had the perfect stripper at home for me already.” I said, stepping a little closer to him.

I stood in silence for a moment waiting for him to respond.

“Will you forgive me?” I asked.

He looked off for a minute then back to me.

“I need to process this shit.” he said.
“Process what? I told you everything…What…” I began to say but was cut short.
“That don’t mean anything. Yea you finally told me, but it didn‘t prevent you from the previous lies. Me and liars don‘t mix, so until I can look at you again with a straight face knowing your telling me the truth, I think we need to split because I can‘t stand to see the sight of you at this moment. Now get your ass in this car so I can get some sleep.” he said leaving me feeling so empty on the inside after hearing him say that. All because of little white lies.
