Chapter Eight
Indigo Nicole Jones
When I got off the phone with Marcus, I had decided, although I wanted to be his girl right now, I should wait a little while longer. Take it slow. BUT I made it very clear, that just because we weren’t official didn’t mean that he could go and find another girl. Just as he had claimed me, I had claimed him. I laid back on my bed and smiled. Indigo and Marcus. Marcus and Indigo. Indigo Nicole Cooper. It had a nice ring to it. I walked up the steps to my school and searched for Mariah when Marcus came up behind me, "Queridaaaaaaaa," He sang. I smiled at him and turned around
"Hola, Poppi!" I returned happily.
He raised his eye, "I like the way you saying that, Ma. Say it again." He pulled me really close to him, I laughed and hit his chest.
"Uh, no."
I saw China approaching from the corner of my eyes. I rolled my hazels immediately. "Take care of that before I have to again." I distanced myself away from him and he pulled me back.
"I thought I told you stay away from my man." China popped her lips and rolled her neck, she did not scare me.
"You see he’s holding me close to him so he wants me here." I told her before directing my attention to Marcus.
China looked at me and then took a deep breath, "You want to know the reason why he’s with you? Because, you’ve never had a man before! Your gonna be easy. All he has to do is threaten to leave and you’ll do whatever. You see he hasn’t said anything." China switched off, click-clacking in her heels with a smile on her face. Thinking she had successfully gotten to me. She had.
I removed his hands from me and started to walk away when he grabbed my wrist. "Indigo, don’t let her get to you." He said as the bell for first period rung. I looked away from him and huffed.
"Why didn’t you deny it?" I asked after being quiet for a minute.
"I didn’t think I had to. I mean, I see now that your trust is that low in me and I’m wondering how we’re going to make it relationship level." Marcus said and turned fully to him.
"It’s on you. Give me a reason to trust you and I will." I said to him simply before walking off.
When I walked into my second period class and saw Pierre I was so nervous. I took my seat in front of him, and I focused on the transparency. I felt a pencil a tap on the shoulder, "So you and my nig really together?" He asked me.
I turned halfway around, "Something like that." I couldn’t help but smile when I said it.
A girl across from me chipped in, "Either ya’ll messing around together or ya’ll are keeping it on the low." I rolled my eyes, "I’m telling you that we are in someway committed to each other so I don’t think it’s on the low."
"Well, he hasn’t told me to stop coming over." The girl chipped in flipping her raggedy weave. I bit my tongue and looked towards the board and did my work. I didn’t know if I would be able to handle dealing with these chicks.
"You see she didn’t say anything back." The girl directed towards me while laughing with her friends. I grabbed my phone out of my purse.

Lol. I’m yours now??
I smiled and put my phone in my purse. I sat back in my seat with a smile.
"What you smiling for?" My smile turned into a frown immediately as I realized this girl was determined to start something with me. I decided to squash it real quick by showing her the text Marcus sent me last night. She huffed and rolled her eyes.
I heard her mumble, "You may be his but he sho’ll ain’t yours." I rolled my eyes and keep my head up. Marcus and I were about to have a conversation after I came back from Therapy today. Ugh. Therapy.
Marcus Ramone Cooper
"What is that fat girl talking about? Are you about to give this up for that?" Ayesha asked with a scowl on her face while walking up to me.
I sighed and nodded, "Yeah I am. I’m done." I was completely serious with her. It was time I got serious with someone. I was with China for nine months and I was never faithful to her. But this was different. Indigo was different. She was making me work for her and unlike China, she was not dealing with other chicks just to be my main. Indigo wanted to be my only. And she would be.
I saw Mariah and she rolled her eyes at me. Yes, she was upset but hey, Indigo wasn’t complaining. I made my way to lunch and saw Indigo sitting by herself. I plopped down in the chair next to her and in front of everyone gave her a kiss on the cheek. I watched to see how she would take it. She touched her cheek and smiled, looked at me. Then at everyone else.
"You know you like me showing you off, Querida." I said to her, smiling. She looked at me and laughed.
"Marcus, you stay lying. We’ve talked about your lying before." Indigo giggled. I playfully tapped her.
"Indigo, I guess I’m gone have to shut you up right here in front of everyone."
She turned towards me, looking at Ayesha out of the corner of her eye, "Do it." It was so sexy hearing her soft voice say that. I licked my lips and held her face in my hand while I leaned in.
Her lips against mine were perfect. Her lips were perfect. I let her deepen the kiss and was surprised. She was never aggressive. Our tongues became playmates until the teacher watching over the cafeteria yelled at us. She started to pull away and I pulled her back in and got one last peck in before I let her go. "Are you trying to start something, Marcus?" She asked licking her lips.
"That sentence would have sounded so good with ‘baby’ at the end of it." I said to her giving her a hint.
She looked me in the eyes and smiled, "I’ll keep that in mind."
I shook my head realizing how stubborn she was. She was reminding me that we were going to happen on her time, but I needed to speed things up.
"So you can’t call me, baby, but I can’t talk to no other girls."
She raised an eyebrow, "That's right. You got a problem with it?" I shook my head no.
Indigo got up and started to walk away, "You better not…Bay." I watched her walk away and smiled at her.
When Indigo had walked away China came up to me, "Marcus, I need to talk to you."
"Don’t give me none of that I’m preg-"
"It’s not that!" She snapped. She looked upset. Very.
"Then what do we have to talk about?"
"You and my sister."
"What sister?" I asked.
"Well, my soon to be step sister." Her eyes went to the door, "Indigo’s dad and my mama are getting married. Looks like you'll have a lot of chances to see what a huge mistake you made."
